After cities like The Hague in the Netherlands, Aarhus in Denmark or Alicante in Spain, which will be the starting point for the race, the Ocean Race organization has confirmed that Mindelo will host one of the stages of the race in the 2021-22 edition.
“It's exciting to be able to introduce a new stop to the race and engage fans in a new and different part of the world compared to previous editions,” said Johan Salén, Ocean Race director.
"With its location, Cape Verde has a strong maritime tradition and also shows great interest and progress in sustainability initiatives, which makes it a natural option for the race," he added.
"Cape Verde is delighted to have been chosen to host a halt at the 2021-22 edition of the Ocean Race and is deeply honored to be the first participant in all West African countries," said Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva. . "We look forward to welcoming the teams and their many fans."
The participating ships, will be at anchor in Porto Grande, Mindelo, and will be one of the shortest stops of the race edition.
